The board of trustees of a school district shall have the power to provide for the rental, purchase or erection of suitable dormitories and dining halls for high school students, and to provide for the support, maintenance and management of the same. The board of trustees shall not furnish board, lodging, support and maintenance of pupils at any other place when dormitories and dining halls are regularly established. Dormitories and dining halls shall be considered part of the regular school equipment and organization where so provided.
