New Mexico Statutes Chapter 64. Aeronautics § 64-2-2. Powers and duties of board

To protect the lives and property of the users of the airport and the occupants of the territory adjacent to the airport, the joint airport zoning board may exercise those powers and duties granted legislative bodies under the Municipal Airport Zoning Law in conformity with the provisions of the Municipal Airport Zoning Law or Sections 3-21-1, 3-21-2 and 3-21-5 through 3-21-11 NMSA 1978 insofar as it relates to compatible land use zoning around the airport. The area eligible for height, hazard and compatible land use zoning around the airport may not extend more than fifty thousand feet beyond any point on the perimeter of the area of land for the airport which is owned by the political subdivision which operates the airport.
