The said director is authorized to destroy all copies of reports of audits for the years one thousand nine hundred and eighteen to one thousand nine hundred and forty, inclusive, remaining in his possession after opportunity to receive the same is afforded to counties, municipalities and the archives and history bureau of the Department of Education in a similar manner as provided in section one 1 hereof.
