New Jersey Statutes Title 46. Property .46 § 17-1

Mortgages or defeasible deeds or conveyances in the nature of mortgages may be registered in the office of the county recording officer of the county in which the affected real estate is situate, upon request therefor of the mortgagee therein named but only when the execution of the same shall have been acknowledged or proved and certified in the manner prescribed by law.
