The seal for each of the surveyors general mentioned in section 46:27-1 of this title, devised by the governor and deposited with the respective surveyors general pursuant to section one of “An act to provide a more easy mode of proving surveys of land in this state, and for other purposes,” passed February twenty-seventh, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight, 1 shall continue to be the seals of such surveyors general, and shall be handed down to their successors in office; and the written descriptions of such seals, deposited and recorded in the office of the secretary of state pursuant to said section one of said act shall remain in the office of the secretary of state as public records of such office.
