The Governor may appoint, with the advice and consent of the Senate, an assistant adjutant general for the New Jersey Army National Guard, and an assistant adjutant general for the New Jersey Air National Guard, respectively, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The assistant adjutant general for the New Jersey Air National Guard may have the rank of major general and the assistant adjutant general for the New Jersey Army National Guard may have the rank of brigadier general during the term of office and each shall serve on the staff of the Adjutant General.
