Within 48 hours after receipt of a report of an incident involving moderate physical injury, major physical injury, or abuse, neglect, or exploitation in a State developmental center or community-based residential program, the commissioner shall send an employee of the department, who is not an employee of a State developmental center, but who may be a case manager employed either by the department, or by an agency under contract with the department, to the location of the reported incident, in order to verify the level of severity of the incident. In investigating the incident, the department shall comply with the provisions of section 4 of P.L.2010, c. 5 (C.30:6D-76).
