Except as otherwise provided in this act, societies shall be governed by this act and shall be exempt from all other provisions of the insurance laws of this State, not only in governmental relations with the State, but for every other purpose. No law enacted on or after the effective date of this act shall apply to societies unless they be expressly designated. No corporation or association which purports to be a fraternal organization but which does not meet the requirements in this act with respect to a fraternal benefit society shall be exempt from the other provisions of the insurance laws of this State.
