3. That the village treasurer shall, before he enters upon the duties of his office, enter into bonds to the inhabitants of said village in their corporate name, with one or more sufficient surety or sureties, being a freeholder or freeholders and resident in the county in which said village is situate, to be approved by the board of trustees, or governing authorities of said village, in such sum as to the said board of trustees, or governing authorities shall direct, conditioned for the faithful performance of all the duties of said office of treasurer of said village according to law.
