North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 122C. Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Act of 1985 § 122C-212. Discharges

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, an individual who has been voluntarily admitted to a facility shall be discharged upon the individual's own request. A request for discharge from a 24-hour facility shall be in writing.

(b) An individual who has been voluntarily admitted to a 24-hour facility may be held for 72 hours after the individual's written application for discharge is submitted.
