When such petition is presented, the district court or judge thereof shall appoint a day for a public hearing. Notice of the hearing shall be given by the clerk of the court by publication at least once a week for at least 2 weeks in a newspaper published or of general circulation in the county in which the office of the district is situated. If any of said lands sought to be included in the district lie in a county or counties other than that in which the office of the district is situated, such notice shall also be likewise published in some newspaper published or of general circulation in each such other county or counties. If there be no such newspaper, then such notice shall be posted in at least three public places in the territory sought to be included.
