The governor is the official representative of the state of Montana on the interstate oil compact commission, provided for in the Interstate Compact To Conserve Oil and Gas, and shall exercise and perform for the state of Montana all the powers and duties as a member of the interstate oil compact commission. However, the governor may appoint an assistant representative who shall act in the governor's stead as the official representative of the state of Montana as a member of the commission. The assistant representative shall take the oath of office prescribed by The Constitution of the State of Montana, which must be filed with the secretary of state.
