Montana Title 7. Local Government § 7-8-2603. Exchange of tax-deed lands for timber lands

After any lands acquired by the county by tax deed have been offered for sale at public auction and not sold, the board of county commissioners may exchange such lands for other lands which are principally valuable for the timber thereon or for the growing of timber if, in the opinion of such board, it is in the best interests of such county to acquire such other lands for the purpose of creating county forests or for the purpose of consolidating such lands with then-existing county forests.
