The director of the department of health must be a physician legally authorized to practice medicine and surgery in Montana. Except as otherwise provided in part 12 or this part, the director of the department of health has the powers and shall perform the duties conferred on and required of coroners and county health officers and local health officers by the general laws of the state. The director also has other powers and shall perform other duties that may be prescribed by ordinance.
