The board, in consultation with the board of medical examiners and the board of pharmacy, shall adopt written protocols for each class of topical medication listed in 37-24-108(2) for which a prescription is required by state or federal law. Protocols must include a description of each topical medication, its actions, indications, and contraindications, and the proper procedure and technique for its application or administration.
