(1) A justice of the peace may not purchase or be interested in the purchase of any judgment or part of a judgment on the justice's docket or on any docket in the justice's possession. A constable may not purchase or be interested in the purchase of any judgment or part of a judgment on the docket of a justice of the peace of the county of which the person is a constable or on a docket in the possession of a justice of the peace in that county.
(2) A violation of subsection (1) is a misdemeanor.
