The department of public health and human services may accept money from the federal government that becomes available to the state as a result of operating the Montana veterans' homes and shall deposit the money in the state treasury for the benefit of the homes. If a resident of a home is transferred to another institution, the department of public health and human services shall continue to draw from the federal government any money available for the maintenance of the former resident.
