1. The director, or any duly appointed representative, may make an examination of the affairs of any health maintenance organization as often as he deems it necessary for the protection of the interests of the people of this state, but not less frequently than once every five years.
2. All costs incurred by the state as a result of making examinations under this section shall be paid by the organization being examined and remitted as provided in section 374.160.
