It shall be the duty of the state geologist to collect full suits of all materials, rocks, ores, fossils or other mineral substances of scientific or practical interest or utility as may be discovered, and that may be necessary to form a complete cabinet collection, to illustrate the various resources of the state, as may be necessary to assist in preparing the various reports of the survey.
