1. For purposes of this section, “local business externship” means an experience in which a teacher, supervised by his or her school or school district, gains practical experience at a business in the local community in which the teacher is employed through observation and interaction with employers and employees who are working on issues related to subjects taught by the teacher.
2. Any hours spent in a local business externship shall count as contact hours of professional development under section 168.021.
