The board of education in metropolitan districts may levy all taxes authorized by law to be levied for school purposes in the city. The officers of the board and the collector and assessor in the city, and all other officers of the city and of the state concerned with the assessment and collection of taxes and fines and penalties payable to the school funds, shall perform the duties in relation to the levying and collection of school taxes and the collection of the fines and penalties, and the payment thereof to the board for school purposes, that are imposed by law upon the officers.
