1. It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an official, employee, or agent of a municipal police force established under sections 84.343 to 84.346 to discharge, demote, reduce the pay of, or otherwise retaliate against an employee of the municipal police force for reporting to any superior, government agency, or the press the conduct of another employee that the reporting employee believes, in good faith, is illegal.
2. Any employee of the municipal police force may bring a cause of action for general or special damages based on a violation of this section.
