The assessor and his deputies before entering upon their duties shall give bond to the state; the assessor for twenty thousand dollars and the deputies each for five thousand dollars, or such other sums as may be fixed by ordinance. Each bond shall be executed in duplicate; the original thereof shall be deposited and filed in the office of the secretary of state, and the duplicate copy, which shall be so marked, shall be deposited and filed in the office of the city comptroller.
