1. In all counties of class one having a population of less than seven hundred thousand inhabitants, whenever the appointment of deputies and assistants is required by law to be approved by circuit judges of the circuit court, and an investigation or examination of the applicants is caused to be made by the judges, the sheriff of the county shall conduct the examination or investigation.
2. At the request of the jury commissioners, the sheriff shall investigate the qualifications of prospective jurors.
