A medical board consisting of three officers may be appointed at any time by the governor to determine the physical fitness of any officer. The findings and recommendations of the board shall be transmitted to the governor. If the officer is found to be physically unfit for service and the finding is approved by the governor, he shall either be ordered retired from active service or his commission shall be terminated.
