Subdivision 1. Applicability. For purposes ofsections 144.602to144.608, the terms defined in this section have the meanings given them.
Subd. 2. Commissioner. “Commissioner” means the commissioner of health.
Subd. 3. Major trauma. “Major trauma” means a sudden severe injury or damage to the body caused by an external force that results in potentially life-threatening injuries or that could result in the following disabilities:
(1) impairment of cognitive or mental abilities;
(2) impairment of physical functioning; or
(3) disturbance of behavioral or emotional functioning.
Subd. 4. Trauma hospital. “Trauma hospital” means a hospital that voluntarily meets the commissioner's criteria undersection 144.603and that has been designated as a trauma hospital undersection 144.605.
