Sec. 1237. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act or a rule to the contrary, a school district, local act school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy may employ an individual who does not hold a teaching certificate to provide speech and language services if the individual meets the requirements for speech-language certification by the American speech-language-hearing association. However, except for a teacher engaged to teach in a community district under section 1233c, 1 an individual who does not hold a teaching certificate shall not be assigned to serve as a classroom teacher.
