Sec. 65. (1) If a member ceases to be a public school employee before satisfying the age and service requirements for a retirement allowance as provided in section 81(1)(a) or (b) or 43b 1 or if a member elected the optional retirement system under the optional retirement act of 1967, Act No. 156 of the Public Acts of 1967, as amended, being sections 38.381 to 38.388 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, the member upon written application shall be paid, except as otherwise provided in this act, the accumulated contributions standing to the member's credit in the reserve for employee contributions and in the reserve for member investment plan, payable before the expiration of 90 days after submitting the written application for payment on a form provided by the retirement board.
(2) Upon payment of the accumulated contributions standing to the member's credit in the reserve for employee contributions and in the reserve for member investment plan pursuant to subsection (1), the member shall forfeit the prior service and contributory membership service credited to the member, and the noncontributory membership service credited during periods when the member contributed to the member investment plan. However, other membership service acquired under the noncontributory plan shall be nonforfeitable except as provided in section 67. 2 The refund shall be payable notwithstanding any time limit for application contained in former Act No. 184 of the Public Acts of 1937, former Act No. 56 of the Public Acts of 1941, or former Act No. 136 of the Public Acts of 1945. 3
