Sec. 801k.(1) Notwithstanding any other provisions in this chapter and subject to subsection (3), late fees must not be assessed on the following vehicles:
(a) A vehicle registered under section 801(1)(j) or (k) 1 or section 801g 2 whose registration expires on or after March 1, 2020 and whose registration is renewed before March 31, 2021.A vehicle registered under section 801(1)(j) or (k) or 801g whose registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and whose registration is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration. The secretary of state shall, upon an applicant's request, reimburse a late renewal fee assessed and collected for a vehicle registered under section 801(1)(j) or (k) or 801g whose registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and whose registration is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration.
(b) All other vehicles registered under this chapter whose registration expires on or after March 1, 2020 and whose registration is renewed before March 31, 2021.All other vehicles registered under this chapter whose registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and whose registration is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration. The secretary of state shall, upon an applicant's request, reimburse a late renewal fee assessed and collected for all other vehicles registered under this chapter whose registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and whose registration is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration.
(2) Notwithstanding any other provisions in this chapter and subject to subsection (3), both of the following apply:
(a) The secretary of state shall not assess a late renewal fee for a registration under section 216(2), 226(11) or (13), or 255(4) 3 if the registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration.
(b) The secretary of state shall, upon an applicant's request, reimburse a late renewal fee assessed and collected for a registration under section 216(2), 226(11) or (13), or 255(4) if the registration expires after March 31, 2021 but before August 1, 2021 and is renewed within 120 days after the date of the expiration.
(3) Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, if, on the effective date of the amendatory act that added this subsection, 4 the secretary of state does not provide adequate in-person services, the secretary of state shall not assess a late renewal fee under this act until the secretary of state resumes providing adequate in-person services.
