The owner of logs, masts or spars referred to in section 971 or the owner's agent may at any time enter in a peaceable manner upon any mill, mill-brow, boom or raft of logs or other timber in search of that lost property. Whoever willfully prevents or obstructs a search for that lost property forfeits for each offense not less than $20 nor more than $50, to the person by whom or on whose account the entry was claimed, to be recovered in a civil action.
