Whenever a teacher acquires a disability or incapacitating condition and has been employed as a teacher in a particular parish for a period of twenty-five years or more, the parish school board of the parish is authorized to pay him, upon his application, an amount which, when added to any retirement benefits received by the teacher, shall not exceed one-half his monthly salary during the last year of his employment in the public schools. The word “teacher” as used in this Part means principal, supervisor, and superintendent of public schools, as well as classroom teachers.
