The following persons shall be exempt from the requirements of registration under this chapter:
(1)(a) Officers and employees of the United States government while engaged in providing geological services for their employment; and
(b) Until July 31, 2015, officers and employees of state or local governments while engaged in providing geological services for their employment;
(2) Persons engaged solely in geologic research or the instruction of geology;
(3) Professional engineers registered in this Commonwealth under KRS Chapter 322 who apply geology to the practice of engineering; or
(4) Persons not engaged in the public practice of geology.
