(a)(1) 1 There is hereby created the designation of inactive certificate. The board is authorized to issue an inactive certificate to any person currently certified by the board who makes written application for such inactive certificate on a form provided by the board and remits the fee established by the board in rules and regulations. The board may issue an inactive certificate only to a person who is not directly engaged in the provision of emergency medical services for which certification is required and who does not hold oneself out to the public as being professionally engaged in the provision of emergency medical services. An inactive certificate shall not entitle the holder to engage in the practice of emergency medical services. Each inactive certificate may be renewed subject to the provisions of this section. Each inactive certificate holder shall be subject to the provisions of article 61 of chapter 65 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, and amendments thereto, except as otherwise provided in this subsection. The holder of an inactive certificate shall not be required to submit evidence of satisfactory completion of the continuing education requirement prescribed by the board.
(b) Each inactive certificate holder may apply for an active certificate upon filing a written application with the board. The request shall be on a form provided by the board and shall be accompanied by a fee prescribed by the board in rules and regulations. The inactive certificate holder may be required to complete such additional testing, training or education as the board may deem necessary to establish the inactive certificate holder's current ability to engage in the provision of emergency medical services with reasonable skill and safety.
(c) This section shall be a part of and supplemental to article 61 of chapter 65 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, and amendments thereto.
