If a member or his or her surviving spouse or children receive monthly cash benefits for death or total disability under this act no monthly benefits shall be payable under K.S.A. 74-4901 et seq., or K.S.A. 74-4951 et seq., and amendments thereto, during or for any month benefits for death or total disability are paid under this act. The adjutant general shall immediately notify the Kansas public employees retirement system on receipt of an application or claim for cash benefits under this act by a member or his or her surviving spouse or children.
