Any person who shall escape from custody while in this state pursuant to the agreement on detainers shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be imprisoned for a term of not less than one nor more than 10 years. On or after July 1, 1993, any person who shall escape from custody while in this state pursuant to the agreement on detainers shall be guilty of an unranked felony and upon conviction the court shall fix an appropriate sentence.
