Sec. 47. (a) The bureau shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 prescribing the cycle for the issuance and replacement of license plates under this article. The rules adopted under this section shall provide that a license plate for a vehicle issued under this article is valid for:
(1) not less than five (5) years; and
(2) not more than ten (10) years.
(b) The rules adopted under this section do not apply to:
(1) truck license plates issued under section 4.5 (before its expiration), 4.6, or 18 of this chapter; and
(2) general assembly and other state official license plates issued under IC 9-18-16 (before its expiration) or IC 9-18.5-3.
