Sec. 2. (a) A person who is an applicant to become a firefighter or police officer must, before being hired, be certified by the local board to the board of trustees of the Indiana public retirement system as having passed the minimum agility and aptitude tests outlined in this chapter.
(b) An applicant who:
(1) passes the baseline statewide physical and mental examination under IC 36-8-8-19; and
(2) meets the conditions for eligibility under IC 36-8-8-7;
shall be a member of the 1977 fund.
