Sec. 8. A township having a regularly organized fire department employing full-time firefighters may procure at the township's expense:
(1) an insurance policy for each member of the department insuring the member against the loss of the member's life or dismemberment while in the performance of the member's regularly assigned duties; and
(2) group insurance providing supplemental income protection for a member of the department who has been injured during the course of the member's employment.
The insurance coverage shall be selected with the consent of the members and is supplemental to other benefits provided the injured member by law.
