Sec. 31. (a) The governing body of each school corporation may appoint or the governing bodies of two (2) or more school corporations jointly may appoint:
(1) one (1) attendance officer; and
(2) one (1) additional attendance officer for every seven thousand five hundred (7,500) students in ADA in the school corporation or school corporations.
The county council shall appropriate, and the board of county commissioners shall allow, the funds necessary to pay the salary and expenses of attendance officers appointed in accordance with this section.
(b) If the governing body of a school corporation declines to make an appointment, the superintendent of the school corporation shall serve as ex officio attendance officer under section 35 of this chapter.
