Sec. 1.3. (a) As used in this section, “farmland” refers to property described in IC 14-22-11-1(a)(2).
(b) Beginning in 2029, and every fifth year thereafter, before November 1, after the most current release of the United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service's Census of Agriculture, the department shall:
(1) conduct an inventory of all farmland lost in Indiana during the five (5) years following the department's prior report; and
(2) identify the primary cause of the reduction of farmland under subdivision (1).
(c) After conducting each inventory under subsection (b), the department shall issue a report to the legislative council containing the department's findings and recommendations, including any recommended legislation, in an electronic format under IC 5-14-6 before November 1 of the year in which the inventory is conducted. Within thirty (30) days after issuing the report required under this subsection to the legislative council, the department shall upload the report to the online portal.
