§ 11-5-7. The corporate authorities of each municipality may license and regulate and establish standards for the operation of ambulances. The corporate authorities of each municipality may either contract for the operation of or operate ambulances as a municipal service and may make reasonable charges therefor and, in addition, may levy a tax for such purpose not to exceed .015% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all the taxable property in the municipality if the question of such tax has been submitted to the electors of the municipality and approved by a majority of those voting on the question. The corporate authorities of any municipality which has approved by referendum a tax of not to exceed .015% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all the taxable property in the municipality, may cause to be submitted to the electors of the municipality the question of increasing the said tax to not to exceed .25% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all the taxable property in the municipality. The corporate authorities of any municipality which has not approved by referendum a tax of not to exceed .015% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all the taxable property in the municipality, may cause to be submitted to the electors of the municipality the question of adopting a tax at a rate not to exceed .25% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of all taxable property in the municipality. Such question shall be certified by the clerk and submitted by the proper election authority at an election in accordance with the general election law. The tax authorized in this Section shall be in addition to and in excess of the amount authorized to be levied for general purposes by Section 8-3-1 of this Code.
This amendatory Act of 1971 does not apply to any municipality which is a home rule unit.
This amendatory Act of 1972 does not apply to any municipality which is a home rule unit.
