§ 11-144-2. Subject to the provisions of Section 11-144-3, when a municipality with a population of less than 3,000 has issued revenue bonds prior to July 22, 1939, for the purpose of constructing or acquiring sewerage systems, and payment of the principal and interest on these bonds has been defaulted, the corporate authorities thereof annually may levy and collect a tax upon the taxable real and personal property in the municipality not to exceed .5% on the dollar. The proceeds of this tax shall be used for the payment of the defaulted principal and interest on the specified bonds. The tax shall be levied and collected in the same manner as are other general taxes of the municipality.
