§ 1-2-11. (a) A sheriff may serve any process or make any arrest in a municipality or a part of a municipality located in the county in which the sheriff was elected that any officer of that municipality is authorized to make under this Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.
(b) Police officers may serve summons for violations of ordinances occurring within their municipalities. In municipalities with a population of 1,000,000 or more, active duty or retired police officers may serve summons for violations of ordinances occurring within their municipalities.
(c) In addition to the powers stated in Section 8.1a of the Housing Authorities Act, 1 in counties with a population of 3,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing authority police force may serve process for eviction actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute eviction orders for that housing authority.
