§ 3-7001. Maintenance of county police department. The Sheriff in each county having more than 1,000,000 inhabitants shall maintain a division to be known as the County Police Department and to consist of such deputy sheriffs charged with the duty of law enforcement in such county as may be selected as hereinafter provided.
