§ 3-5028. Map making department; counties of less than 1,000,000. In counties with a population of less than 1,000,000, the recorder, pursuant to ordinance or resolution of the county board, may establish a map making department which shall have sole authority over the preparation, maintenance and designation of maps and up-to-date lists of property owners names and addresses required for use by the county, including but not limited to, those maps and lists used for assessment purposes.
If the recorder establishes a map making department pursuant to such ordinance or resolution, then such department shall supersede the authority of any other person or agency previously charged with the responsibility for map making.
