§ 3-3004. Bond. Before entering upon the duties of his or her office, he or she shall give bond, with 2 or more sufficient sureties (or, if the county is self-insured, the county through its self-insurance program may provide bonding), to be approved by the circuit court for his or her county, in the penal sum of $5,000, which shall cover both the coroner and any deputies, payable to the People of the State of Illinois, conditioned that each will faithfully discharge all the duties required or to be required of him by law as such coroner, deputy coroner or as sheriff of the county, in case he or she shall act as such. The bond shall be entered of record in the court and filed in the office of the county clerk of his or her county. The costs of the bond shall be paid by the county.
