§ 1. Whenever a vacancy exists in the office of judge of the Appellate Court, and the Supreme Court assigns another judge to serve as judge of the Appellate Court until the vacancy is filled by election, the judge assigned to serve as judge of the Appellate Court for the period of the vacancy shall, during such period of service, be paid the salary of the Appellate Court judge whose position he fills.
