§ 2605-305. Statewide Organized Criminal Gang Database (SWORD). The Illinois State Police may establish and maintain, within the Illinois State Police, a Statewide Organized Criminal Gang Database (SWORD) for the purpose of tracking organized criminal gangs and their memberships. Information in the database may include, but not be limited to, the name, last known address, birth date, physical descriptions (such as scars, marks, or tattoos), officer safety information, organized gang affiliation, and entering agency identifier. The Illinois State Police may develop, in consultation with the Criminal Justice Information Authority, and in a form and manner prescribed by the Illinois State Police, an automated data exchange system to compile, to maintain, and to make this information electronically available to prosecutors and to other law enforcement agencies. The information may be used by authorized agencies to combat the operations of organized criminal gangs statewide.
