The state treasurer shall not be liable personally or upon his official bond for any moneys that may be lost by reason of the failure or insolvency of any bank which becomes a depository under the state depository law, except insofar as his violation of any trust devolving upon him as such treasurer or any of the provisions of this chapter shall contribute to such loss.
