A dental hygienist is authorized to practice under general supervision when:
(1) In a dental office where the dental hygienist works, a dentist has diagnosed the condition to be treated and determined the procedure to be performed, or has authorized a dental hygienist to perform the prescribed treatment; or
(2) In an extended access oral health care setting, the supervising dentist has determined the dental hygiene procedures that may be performed and has issued written orders to a dental hygienist to provide the authorized treatment. The supervising dentist shall be responsible to treat the patient's dental needs or refer the patient to another dentist for treatment.
